Man Finally

So we finally watched the Japanese Language DVD.  Wow! I have to say that it is definitely worth buying.  The down side is it wasn't long enough. :(
It's catchy, you learn how to say things in real life happenings and the songs at the end of each lesson are quite catchy, to say the least.  James was actually remembering the words during the little mini tests after the lessons.  Happy to say I was too. :)  I can't wait to get the next one in the series, this one will be watched a whole lot.

Awesome website!

So I found this awesome handwriting website.  I have been searching everywhere for a site where you don't have to download a program to your computer.  Where you can either type in what you want your child to write and they trace it on the printed out dotted lines or they have sentences already made.  Where you can choose from the D'Nealian, Zaner Bloser, Basic printing, or cursive.  I found it and it's completely free and did I mention AWESOME!  So here's the wonderful site.  Enjoy ^_^

Okay so eventually we'll watch the Japanese DVD. I have been so busy doing all kinds of stuff that I haven't been able to get around to it. So I'm sure everyone is interested in what I'm teaching my ds. If not I'm tellin ya anyhoo :) So we are doing English / reading from BJ's (given to us by an awesome new friend, thanks Cenia) and math (mainly telling time because that's where we left off and he's still having a tad bit of trouble with) from a book I picked up from the store & handwriting (the internet print outs). We're mainly sticking with this until I feel like I can add some more in there. I really want to add Apologia Astronomy in there. Weird I know for a 2nd grader but he really wants to study about the planets, so we will. On top of the school basics there, we will and are practicing his sitting still for longer then 15 mins, manners and listening. He's reached the age of seeing what he can get away with. Trying times man trying times :P He's awesome though and sweet. He has this wonderful sweet thing where he will walk over to me and look straight at me and say "momma I love you" and then hugs me. That over course makes me melt and not want to put him in time out but a momma has to hold her ground and stick to her guns or you'll be looking for trouble when he's older. Just sayin'

First Day of School!

So school went fairly well.  I say this because we did a half day of mainly reviewing everything from last year.  If I let him out for a long time he wouldn't retain things as well.  So we're back to the books.  Anyway, we reviewed most of the subjects (reading, phonics, and math) and art.  Those subjects are the ones we have to stay on top of, well except art. :P  So it went fairly well.  Tomorrow will be the full on course and a heck of a lot smoother. (Cross our fingers) :)
So I completely forgot about the whole review on the Japanese language DVD.  Sorry about that. I got so busy that day with other things. First helping out at the church (and getting onto DS), then heading to Krystals to wait for my in-laws and eat lunch, then off to the flea market and finally home.  So it was very busy. By the time we got home it was time to make supper.  So zero time for the movie.  I'll do the DVD tomorrow during school and will let you know how he reacts to it.  Hopefully he'll like it and retain it.  Heck I'm hoping to like it and retain it. lol
Bye for now, I'm off to tape some pictures to the school room wall, which is quite bare at the moment.

The Homeschool items came! When it got here I ripped it open like an excited school girl. I stared at each item for a minute or so just grinning. Then I rushed over to my playstation 2 ( yes it's mine) and promptly popped in the munchkin one for DS. That one he watched all the way through w/o being bored. So yeah on that one. Score one for me on picking the right one! The I popped the addition and subtraction rap. Awe total wipe out. He didn't like it. :( he sat for 15 minutes and declared it was too boring. So I'll put it aside and hopefully he'll change his mind later. Guess I'll have to pick another DVD. The art book was a score! He plopped down and started drawing the pictures right away. So two scores for me. ^_^ I haven't tried the Japanese DVD yet. We'll do that tomorrow after we get home from helping our church set up VBS for this coming week. I'll let you know.:)

I'm excitedly awaiting the much anticipated UPS delivery of the homeschool items. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas morning. Corny I know, but I really love homeschooling my DS and I love looking through all of the things we'll be doing this year. ^_^

So here are some of the things I bought

I'll fill you all in on what I bought to use during this homeschooling year.  Well DS has been excelling big time on his reading.  He's 6 but is reading at a 3rd grade level and this book here is what helped big time Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons . This is what helped big time.  Now he's not doing the best in math.  I think it's because last year I used all work books and I didn't really engage the whole lets have fun with math thing.  I mean school should be fun. I know you're thinking "school is not suppose to be fun".  Well I don't know about you but the things I do remember from school have everything to do with something exciting, totally mind engaging fun.  I want that for my DS.  So I set out and bought some videos.  Don't shake your head, please.  He's a visual learner so I'm hoping this will help him actually get excited about math again.  I bought fridgeplay magnetic clock set and all of this.
